Using the GCL.NET Photo Gallery

To access the photo gallery:

1. Go to http://gcl.net
2. Click on "Photo Gallery"
3. Click on "[login]" at the upper right, or "[register]" if you don't yet have an account
4. Log in using your personal username and password
5. Click on the name of the album you want to visit

Important Note: When you first register, you will only be able to see the few photos that are visible to the general public. To see family photos and other restricted categories, let me know your new username and I'll adjust its privileges accordingly.

Passwords

• Usernames and passwords are case sensitive!
• If you've forgotten your username, ask me.
• If you've forgotten your password, have it sent to you from the login screen.
• You can change your password using the [preferences] link at the upper right corner of the main photo gallery page.

The gallery has three types of screens:

• Main Gallery pages, that show all the top-level albums that you have permission to view, and to their right a list of any sub-albums inside of them.
• Album View that shows you an array of small images, up to 20 per page.
• Image View shows a larger view of, and information about, just one image.

In Main Gallery you can:

• Choose an album or sub-album to view.
• Use the arrows and numbers near the top and bottom to move between pages of albums.
• Change your Preferences using the link at the upper-right.

In Album View you can:

• create your own sub-album by choosing "Album Actions" at the upper right.
• use the arrows and numbers near the top and bottom to move between pages of images.
• click on a small image, or one of the sizes listed beneath it, to see it in an Image View.
• rate the image by clicking <<Vote>>, selecting your rating, then clicking the Vote button at the top of the page.
• see a slideshow but using the link at the upper-right.
• search for images associated with a word or phrase by using the text box at the upper right.

In Image View you can:

• read any notes associated with the image, which may include when and where the photos was taken, and names of people and subjects involved.
• use links at the upper left to switch between Normal and Full size.
• rate the image by clicking <<Vote>>, selecting your rating, then clicking the Post button at the bottom of the page.
• add your comments by typing in the Message box and then pressing the Post button.
• see the Filename, which you'll need to send me when requesting an improved version of the picture.
• order professional-quality prints by clicking "Print photo with..." at the upper left.

Saving Images:

• Save an image to your hard drive by right-clicking on it and using the appropriate command (Save Image As... in Firefox or Safari, Save Picture As... in Internet Explorer, etc.). Keep in mind that this saves the picture at the size you're seeing; if you want to save a higher resolution version, go to its Image View page and right-click on it there.

If you see a photo you especially like, I can usually provide a version of even higher quality, cropped, or otherwise adjusted. Just let me know, and be sure to include the Filename as shown on the Image View page (e.g. 2009-10-12_16.59.32_DSC00497).
